Christmas Present

Well, it occurred to me that I haven't posted any spitefic in quite some time, but I've come up with a good idea for a short (well, I'm aiming for short, but there are no guarantees when I do) one which I'm about to start writing as your Christmas present from me! No promises it'll be ready in time for Christmas Day, but I'll do my best. Good thing I'm currently between novels. (And a few minutes ago I submitted one to a publisher! Fingers crossed!).

It'll be about Ismira Urgal-Maiden, and may contain a special Ra'zac appearance. And now to get to work!

Inspiration and plagiarism: what is the line that separates them?

Lately, I've been asking myself this question, especially with everything that's happening with artificial intelligence (which many expect writers to embrace, or else they'll be finished; or something like that).

I admit that when creating my story and building the world around it, I used several elements from other media (books, movies, series, and even anime) as inspiration. And recently, I've been afraid of being criticized, or worse, accused of plagiarism, because of the similarities between the elements I used in my story.

Or maybe I'm just being paranoid (as I always am).

Anyway, putting my paranoid thoughts aside, what do you all think? I'm all ears.

(I have a feeling I've asked this question before, but I can't be sure.)

Du Fryn Skulblaka Fan Video

I didn't bother to watch the entire thing but god it was embarrassing listening to this guy trying to get his mouth around the stupid AL words.

The Eragon Iceberg

Paolini just retwitted this (along with a bunch of clips of him "duelling" other white men at the Dragonsteel con like the mature adults they are) and well, this is why I keep calling his fans a bunch of idiots.
"Eat the path" is just SOOO deep, you guys. And there are totally multiple languages and shit! You know what, I don't have the energy to go to town on it right now.

UPDATE: Even worse: it was his idea. He suggested someone do this, then MOCKED them when they did.

World of the Others Commentary

Well, here we are at last. The penultimate chapter. Only one more after this. This is the chapter where the author decides to tie up a few loose ends into neat little bows and basically give incredible detail as to why her "heroes" are actually villains. Because who else would keep an entire city hostage but bad guys?

It's also very, very short. Because the author wanted to drag things out, I guess.

It's Not MY Fault! )

Part 4 may or may not be posted before Christmas, that will depend on how much free time I have.
